What we treat

ADHD evaluation and treatment

ADHD does not only affect children, and it is frequently identified for the first time in adulthood — often after years of being described as careless or disorganised.

What it can look like

  • Difficulty sustaining attention on things that are not immediately engaging
  • Starting more than you finish
  • Losing track of time, appointments, deadlines or belongings
  • Restlessness, or difficulty sitting with a task
  • Acting or speaking before thinking it through
  • Emotional reactions that feel disproportionate and arrive quickly

You do not need to recognise all of these, and recognising them is not a diagnosis. That is what the evaluation is for.

How we approach it

ADHD is diagnosed through a proper evaluation, not a questionnaire. We look at how long the pattern has been present, how it shows up across different parts of your life, and what else could be producing the same picture — anxiety, depression, sleep problems and substance use can all look like ADHD, and sometimes sit alongside it.

Both stimulant and non-stimulant options are available when clinically appropriate, following that evaluation. All controlled-substance prescribing includes the Prescription Monitoring Program checks required in Virginia and Connecticut. No particular medication can be guaranteed in advance of being assessed.
