Services

Psychiatric care built around your life

Every treatment plan starts with a thorough evaluation and is adjusted as you go — never one-size-fits-all.

Comprehensive Psychiatric Evaluations

A full 60-minute assessment of your history, symptoms and goals — the foundation for an accurate diagnosis and a plan that fits.

Medication Management & Optimization

Careful prescribing, monitoring and adjustment — including reviewing medications that were started elsewhere and never re-evaluated.

Anxiety, Depression, ADHD & Mood Concerns

Treatment for the conditions that most often go undertreated — including panic, persistent low mood and adult-diagnosed ADHD.

Trauma-Informed & Culturally Responsive Care

Care that accounts for your background, identity and history — so you spend your session being understood, not explaining yourself.

Conditions we commonly treat

Not seeing what you're dealing with? It is still worth asking — the evaluation is where that gets sorted out.

About your provider

Meet Tola Akinbobola, PMHNP-BC

“My goal is to help patients achieve symptom stability and a better quality of life — not just a prescription.”

I am a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner providing care to adolescents and adults. I use evidence-based treatment that integrates psychopharmacology with supportive therapy to improve outcomes.

I bring more than a decade of experience across general medicine and mental health. That background matters more than it sounds: physical health, sleep, medication interactions and life circumstances shape psychiatric symptoms constantly, and they are easy to miss when only one part of the picture is in view.

My care model is patient-centered, culturally competent, and focused on long-term wellness. That means I take the time to understand the whole picture — your history, your circumstances, and what you actually want your life to look like — before we decide on a treatment plan together.

Treatment planning here is collaborative, not prescriptive. You should leave a visit understanding what we are treating, why a particular medication was chosen, and what we expect to happen next. If something is not working, I would rather hear it early than have you quietly stop taking it.

Insurance we accept

Coverage varies by individual policy, so we confirm your specific benefits before your first appointment. What you actually pay depends on your plan's copay, coinsurance, and whether your deductible has been met — Headway shows you that figure before you confirm a booking, so there is no guesswork.

FAQ

Common questions

Do you prescribe ADHD medication?

Yes. Stimulant and non-stimulant options are both available when clinically appropriate, following a proper evaluation. All controlled-substance prescribing includes the required Prescription Monitoring Program checks in Virginia and Connecticut.

What ages do you see?

Adolescents and adults, ages 13 and up. Patients under 18 need a parent or legal guardian present for the initial evaluation and for consent.

Are visits in person or virtual?

All visits are 100% virtual through a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. You will need a private space and a device with a camera and microphone. You must be physically located in Virginia or Connecticut at the time of your appointment.

Do you take insurance?

Yes. We are in network with 1199SEIU, Aetna, Anthem, BlueCross and BlueShield, CareFirst, Carelon Behavioral Health, Cigna and Evernorth, Optum, Oscar Health, Oxford, Quest Behavioral Health, United Medical Resources (UMR) and UnitedHealthcare (UHC | UBH). Insurance appointments are booked through Headway, which verifies your coverage and shows your expected cost before you confirm. If your plan isn’t listed, you can book self-pay instead.

Do you provide therapy?

Visits integrate supportive therapy alongside medication management. For patients who need structured weekly psychotherapy, we coordinate with a therapist and work alongside them.

I'm already taking psychiatric medication. Can you take over?

Yes, and it is one of the more common reasons people come here. We review what you are taking, why it was started, and whether it is still the right fit — medication that was started elsewhere and never revisited is worth a fresh look. Bring your current list and doses to the first visit.

What do I need for a telehealth visit?

A private space where you can speak freely, and a phone, tablet or computer with a working camera and microphone. A wired or stable connection helps. You will get a secure link before your appointment — there is nothing to install ahead of time.

What if I live outside Virginia or Connecticut?

Unfortunately we cannot see you. Telehealth is regulated by the state you are physically in at the time of the appointment, not where you normally live or where the practice is based, and we are licensed in Virginia and Connecticut only. This also matters if you travel — if you will be out of state on your appointment date, let us know so we can reschedule.

Can you work alongside my current therapist?

Yes, and we would encourage it. Medication management and therapy work better together than either does alone. With your written permission we can coordinate directly with your therapist so you are not left relaying messages between us.

How soon will I feel a difference?

It depends on what we are treating and what we are treating it with. Some medications work within days; many antidepressants take several weeks before the benefit is clear, and the first few weeks can bring side effects that settle. We will set realistic expectations at your evaluation, and follow-up visits exist precisely so the plan can be adjusted rather than endured.

What if I'm in crisis?

This practice does not provide emergency or crisis services, and we are not a 24-hour service. If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), call 911, or go to your nearest emergency room. For non-urgent questions between appointments, contact us during business hours.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

Please give at least 24 hours’ notice so the time can be offered to someone else. Cancellations inside 24 hours, and missed appointments, may be charged.
