What we treat

Substance use treatment

Substance use is treated here as a clinical matter, not a moral one. You will not be lectured.

What it can look like

  • Using more, or for longer, than you intended
  • Wanting to cut down and finding you cannot
  • Needing more over time to get the same effect
  • Use continuing despite the cost to health, work or relationships
  • Time increasingly organised around using or recovering
  • Using to manage anxiety, low mood, pain or sleep

You do not need to recognise all of these, and recognising them is not a diagnosis. That is what the evaluation is for.

Withdrawal from alcohol and some other substances can be medically dangerous. If you are physically dependent, do not stop abruptly on your own — seek medical advice first, and in an emergency call 911.

How we approach it

Substance use and mental health rarely sit apart. Anxiety, depression, trauma and sleep problems both drive use and are worsened by it, and treating only one side tends not to hold. The evaluation looks at the whole picture rather than one piece.

This is outpatient care delivered by telehealth. If what you need is medically supervised detox or inpatient treatment, that is a different level of care, and we will help you understand that rather than keep you in the wrong setting.
