What we treat

Depression treatment

Depression is not only sadness. Often it looks like flatness, exhaustion, and the slow loss of things that used to matter.

What it can look like

  • Low mood, emptiness or numbness that persists most of the day
  • Losing interest in things you used to enjoy
  • Exhaustion that sleep does not resolve
  • Difficulty concentrating, deciding or remembering
  • Changes in sleep or appetite, in either direction
  • Feeling worthless, guilty, or like a burden to people around you

You do not need to recognise all of these, and recognising them is not a diagnosis. That is what the evaluation is for.

If you are having thoughts of harming yourself, please do not wait for an appointment. Call or text 988, call 911, or go to your nearest emergency room.

How we approach it

Depression has many causes, and treating it well starts with working out which one is in front of us. The evaluation covers your history, your current symptoms, sleep, physical health and previous treatment — including medication that was started elsewhere and never re-examined.

Treatment is adjusted rather than set once. Many antidepressants take several weeks before the benefit is clear, and follow-up visits exist precisely so the plan can be changed rather than endured.
